The Groove Hounds are a Halifax based trio that play a melodic mix of blues, R&B, jazz, funk and rock. Not ones to stick with the `status-quo`, they thrive on their own renditions of cover and original songs and prefer the live groove over perfection.
The Groove Hounds are:
Stan Gadziola - Guitar, vocals, harp, Scottish accents
Donnie MacNeil - Drums, vocals, band manager
Rob George - Bass, vocals, gear head
The Groove Hounds formed in early 2009 out of an interest between Rob and Stan to start jamming. Realizing they needed some percussion, Rob called his old band mate Donnie to sit in and see what might happen. What came next was a blending of styles, ideas and sounds that eventually became the Groove Hounds.
From the outset, the Hounds agreed that they would never play the ‘typical bar songs’ (and for the most part have stayed true to that). Instead they focused their energy on revitalizing lost and obscure songs and expanding into musical genres they’ve never played before, developing themselves musically and lyrically.
Inevitably, this evolved into writing their own material and developing a musical sound and direction all their own.
Playing live? Yup, but only when the gig or venue is interesting.
Being well rehearsed and planned out? Nope. Hounds never have and never will use set lists. Spur of the moment song decisions based on the band and the crowds mood have often lead to some very interesting and creative moments.
Sticking to one genre? No way. What’s the fun of that? Then we would never have Scottish Reggae or Country Disco to listen too.
Essentially its three guys discovering why they started playing in the first place. Trying to make good, interesting music and well … being a little goofy. If people like it, the Hounds are happy to welcome them along for the ride
