Sibusiso “GettoChild” Vilakazi (Born in 23rd July 1991) is a South African Rapper, Songwriter and Entrepreneur from Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
GettoChild was raised in a house hold in Hammarsdale, Mpumalanga Town Ship South East of Durban and began writing and rapping in 2007, becoming involved in the City’s Hip Hop Scene. After matric he was admitted for an LLB Degree at University of KwaZulu Natal, Howard Collage in 2009 dropped out in 2011 mid-year due to Finance. So he went back home as collage drop out he pursued his music career, even though the family didn’t understand but his passion was Rhythm and Poetry (Rap). After releasing his 1st Debut Single Airing on Radio they saw that there was more to this thing then what they thought there was.
Getto Child first became known in his own region after releasing his first hit single underground “Coming Home” featuring Soul Mechanic produced by San’roid, recorded, mixed and mastered by Brain Productions.
The song unexpectedly made a debut on well-known local radio station (iGagasi FM) Hip Hop Music Sessions hosted by the legendary DJ LAB and was Voted No.1 by the listeners across KZN in 2011.
So after that the demand Grew for more he then decided to release another one titled “Let Go” featuring Msitwana also got air played on one and the same show Voted No.1 as well with more positive comments from the listeners who called in.
This was therefore a sign for him to capitalize on that, so he started taking his art serious as he continued and went out to collaborate other local artist and other producers. As a result he has now established a working relationship with B5 Entertainment which gave birth to the likes of Weird Music, Nana Atta now signed with Universal Music Group, Scelo Gowane now signed with Touch Africa and Tellaman who is now signed with Soul Candi Records who is also one half of Select Play Music from Newlands West, Durban. After a couple of days with the B5 Family he started working on his project The Undergraduate EP and Select Play Music produced majority of the project that is still under construction and features the likes of Nana Atta, Tellaman, and Skye Wanda as well as Champ Tile, Ab Fab and Soul Mechanic.
He recently released his first single Rise and Grind Featuring Tellaman produced by Select Play Music taken from The Undergraduate EP, the song debuted once again on iGagasi FM Hip Hop Music Sessions Local Top 5 and other local radio stations. The reception was really overwhelming as he was also nominated on the South African Hip Hop Awards Corner (SAHHA2015) along with other 20 artists from around the country. The song is now featured on the 15 Images of Sound by DJ Fluwid. Also recognised by the Pop, Gospel sensation Khaya Mthethwa who came to Mpumalanga T/ship and requested that he hosts him as he was promoting his new album The Uprising.
